We have now made several trips to Bognor Yacht club and frankly it is an excellent location which we're insanely jealous of! They have a beachfront clubhouse with it's own café, bar, full-on changing facilities and garden. Oh yeah, and they've got the sea on their doorstep - lots of sea!
The sailing at Bognor is very much weather dependant and varies from flat as a pancake to down right choppy with shore break to boot! There is an outcrop of rocks about half a mile out which must be avoided at low tide (unless of course you have plenty of money to throw away on replacement skegs) but is not a problem at high tide.
At high tide the beach shelves off very quickly and consequently you'll be out of your depth easily. But, on the plus side, you'll avoid the aforementioned rocks. At low tide a crackin' sandy beach appears and shelves off very gently to give you the best of both worlds.
This location is ideal for all levels of sailors but on the day it will depend on the tide and the weather. If the day is not for you, then there is plenty going on in Bognor town (just down the road) or spectating from the bar at the clubhouse is always a serene prospect
From Rickmansworth, take the M25 to Junction 10. Take the A3 and follow it all the way down to the A3(M). Carry on to Havant. From Havant, take the A27 to Chichester. At Chichester, take the A259 to Bognor.
There is parking around the yacht club and in their own car park, but this is limited.
Ideal for all levels bar, perhaps, absolute beginners. Suitability very much depends on wind conditions and tide bearing in mind this is unsheltered water
The yacht club itself has excellent changing facilities with largs warm showers and clean toilets
